Pearl is excited to announce the return of San Antonio’s popular Latin music event, the Échale! Latin Music Estyles Block Party, happening on Memorial Day, May 25 from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m.
Sponsored by Corona Extra, Cadillac, and Red Bull Sound Select, the Memorial Day event will feature 2014 Houston Press Music Award winners, The Suffers, a 10-piece Gulf Coast Soul band led by lead singer Kam Franklin, fresh off their acclaimed David Letterman performance. Franklin and her band put together torchy ballads sure to satisfy. Los Crema Paraiso, a Venezuelan super group fronted by Los Amigos Invisibles founder Jose Luis Pardo aka DJ Afro, brings together various backgrounds and sifts through styles with Brazilian music, jazz-funk and art-rock. Their experimental and indigenous Venezuelan grooves are marked with a variety of melodies, including Pink Floyd covers. The pride of San Antonio, Bombasta, has been mashing up an exhilarating mix of cumbia, hip-hop and rock for more than a dozen years, featuring Spanglish politics and roots passion to tie it all together in their self-described “barrio big band” style.
For electronic fans, an active DJ of many music styles, DJ Orión, is known for his skills not only in sound engineering but in video content as well. Chulita Vinyl Club, an all-girl, all-vinyl DJ club whose focus is to bring girls to the front in the male dominated DJ/club scene, has parts of their group all over the world but functions out of Austin.
The free event will offer food and vendors, taking place in the Pearl parking lot under Highway 281. Parking will be available on site and at the Kohler garage.
