ASKING FOR CHANGE highlights five characters, each representing a part of the demographic of our homeless population. It is a theatrical piece that is primarily movement-based. The form of the piece is a rehearsed series of scores, each with a goal and rules to move by. The performers are then free to improvise, exposing fresh beauty in their physical and emotional reactions with each performance.
Creator and Director Stephan Gaeth is Jump-Start’s first INKUBATOR artist. ASKING FOR CHANGE is a development of a piece he performed at the company’s 2014 8 X 8 series. With INKUBATOR, Jump-Start invites a community artist to present an original work, offering support with a space, technical assistance, funds and a critical response process to assist in development of the new work.
Seating is limited. Community members active in homelessness issues will be present opening night for a post-show exchange with audience and artists.
