Luther's Cafe (Closed Permanently)

(83 Ratings)
San Antonio Institution on the gay strip
This place is all about the hamburgers and they've been serving them up since 1949, well before this was the heart of gay San Antonio. Now it's gay-owned and operated and conveniently located - wanna grab some grease after the club? This is your spot!

Basically a Hamburger Mary's

This place is actually better than what the other reviews make it sound to be. It's not just a greasy dive for hamburgers. This is a solid place that serves quality food. The atmosphere is similar to a Hamburger Mary's. And it's conveniently located across the strip mall of gay bars. Worth checking out.

Great Late Night (early morning) Burger

When in SA, I like to make that late night visit here (usually 1:30 to 2:30 am) for the burger/fry order. Burgers have generous meat portions, and exactly what is needed for that middle of the night snack when you don't want national chain "fast food fix". Really a plus for the central, club area of SA.

Around the clock bundle of goodness!

Located right across the street from “the strip” on Main Street and good all around the clock! Luther's Cafe has great food (burgers and sweet potato fries!) and nice staff. It is extremely gay friendly and offers a nice selection of food for not a bad price. (If you are at Sparky's Pub across the street, you can order Luther's food with no delivery charge or loss of food taste!)

Good Burgers

Perfect place to grab a bite to eat after drinking across the street. The place isn't meant to be the next big thing, just a cool place to sober up after a fun night at the clubs. A little bit slow during late night, but good food makes it worth it most of the time.

same tired attitude as the Heat

it was dumb to think that after being asked to leave the Heat for questioning the bartender about why he suddenly double our drink prices, we went across the street for a late night meal, that we were treated in the same rude and obnoxious way as we were in the Heat. The hostess was trying to be helpful but was told by the manager to not serve us and asked us to leave. After talking to people outside we discovered it was the same owners and managers as the Heat. Too bad they don't have a clue as too who I was. And that I am a restaurant reviewer for a large syndicated column that reviews gay businesses. Unless you are desparate or starving go to Denny's instead!
